The Risk of not choosing Resinex the First Time
The port of Salerno is one of southern Italy’s most strategically important commercial hubs, handling significant volumes of cargo traffic along the Tyrrhenian coast.
As part of a broader consolidation and functional upgrading of the Molo di Ponente, Resinex was awarded by R.C.M. Costruzioni the supply of three navigation aid elastic beacons and one instrumental elastic beacon for the port’s western pier.
Navigation aid beacons
The three navigation aid elastic beacons are Resinex FP 7000 PEM 21 x 2800 units, designed for operating depths between 14.5 and 18.5 metres. Each beacon features a truncated conical float filled with rigid polyurethane foam, ensuring permanent buoyancy in all conditions.
The floats have an external diameter of 2,100 mm and a height of 2,800 mm, with the focal plane set at 7 metres above the waterline.
Submerged parts receive an anti-fouling treatment, and eight zinc anodes provide additional cathodic protection.
Each beacon is equipped with an IALA-compliant radarable topmark with a radar reflector, and a self-powered marine lantern offering a nominal range of 4–5 NM and GPS synchronisation. The units are also fitted with climbing steps, a telescopic tower and an access ladder.
Instrumental beacon
The fourth unit is an instrumental elastic beacon, model PEM 21 x 2800 FP 7500, deployed at an operating depth of 14.9 metres and a focal plane set 7.5 metres above the waterline.
Sharing the same float structure as the navigation aid beacons, it differs from them both structurally and functionally: it features a 2 x 2 metre platform supporting eight panel brackets for 100 W solar panels, a dedicated bracket for an ADCP sensor, and a stainless-steel enclosure and bracket for an AWAC unit.
This is not a trivial distinction: while the navigation aid beacons fulfil a demanding marking role operating continuously in an exposed marine environment, the instrumental beacon adds a further layer of complexity, serving simultaneously as a stable, long-term platform for acoustic monitoring equipment.
The supply replaced equipment from a previous provider, reflecting the client’s confidence in Resinex’s product quality and technical support. The project confirms Resinex’s capability to deliver tailored solutions for complex port infrastructure, combining standard navigation aid requirements with specialised instrumental configurations.
